Rachel Munson is the aquarist in charge of Shark Lagoon at the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Her key areas of expertise include the biology of sharks and rays and training and healthcare for these animals. She is SCUBA certified and often dives in the main exhibit with the larger sharks and rays. Munson works with species including the sand tiger shark, whitetip reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, bamboo sharks, zebra sharks, reticulated whiptail and mangrove rays. She knows each shark’s unique personality, preferences, and quirks. She is passionate about shark conservation and has served as a media spokesperson on this topic. She joined the Aquarium of the Pacific in 2012 and earned her degree in marine biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
