Second Annual Citizen Science Symposium Set for March 2017

The Aquarium will host its second annual Citizen Science Symposium on Saturday, March 4, 2017. The symposium, held in partnership with the Aquarium’s Marine Conservation Research Institute (MCRI), showcases the work of citizen scientists in Southern California focusing on conservation. Tickets are now available, and the organizers are accepting applications for presenters. The application deadline is January 13, 2017.
Anyone involved or interested in citizen science is invited and encouraged to attend this symposium. Attendees will include practitioners who design citizen science programs, volunteers currently participating in these programs, as well as students, educators, and anyone with an interest in becoming a citizen scientist or starting a citizen science program. The audience will represent diverse disciplines in conservation-related fields with varying levels of experience. The most important opportunities at the symposium will be those that allow participants to make connections, share their knowledge and information with others, and learn from experts and fellow citizen scientists.
Mary Ellen Hannibal, author of Citizen Scientist: Searching for Heroes and Hope in an Age of Extinction, will present the keynote address. In addition the symposium will feature lightning talks, panel discussions, a poster reception, and book signing.
