Seahorse and Seadragon Illustrations Now on Display

A collection of forty-one seahorse and seadragon illustrations will be on display in the Aquarium’s Great Hall through the end of September. These illustrations were created for the Horses and Dragons exhibits that opened in May to showcase the diversity of this family of fishes. They were incorporated into the map wall in the Tropical Pacific gallery and in an online story map.

Aquarium Art Director Brian Gray headed the creation of the illustrations with contributions by staff members Alice Hsieh, the Aquarium’s exhibit graphic designer; Andrew Reitsma, web manager and graphic designer; Peter Martineau, marketing events manager; and freelance artist Mary Lai. The drawings were created with two layers: a black-and-white line drawing and a colored painting that were composited digitally to create the final result.
