Aquarium Winter Activities
Enjoy educational activities for kids and teens, art installations, discounted late nights, and opportunities to start the new year learning about issues affecting the ocean and wildlife.

This winter visit the Aquarium’s 12,000 animals with your friends and family, and explore the new Pacific Visions wing with an exciting immersive theater, engaging interactive exhibits, and animal displays to explore ways to create a better future for our planet.
This season also features educational opportunities, with Winter Day Camps for kids ages 7 to 12 on January 2 and 3.
Art installations are on view at the Aquarium throughout December and January. Visit the massive, dazzling sea urchin sculpture on the front plaza, which is illuminated with LED lights in its spines at night. Created by art collective Liquid PXL, the sea urchin sculpture was originally displayed at Burning Man in 2015. Also on view at the Aquarium is an exhibit of artwork by painter Danielle Eubank, documenting her travels to oceans around the world.
The public can also take advantage of opportunities to explore the Aquarium for a discounted admission rate or for free. The Aquarium will hold Discounted Late Nights on December 26, 27, 29, and 30, and January 3. On Discounted Late Nights, the entire Aquarium is open until 8:00 p.m. and admission after 5:00 p.m. is $19.95 for all ages.
Start the new year with Aquarium events for adults that educate and inspire. On January 6 the Aquarium will host a free screening of the film Sea of Shadows and a panel discussion with scientists and one of the filmmakers. The Aquarium’s Guest Speaker Series kicks off 2020 with a lecture on climate change by ethicist Dr. Thomas White on January 9. On January 13 and 14 the Aquarium will host a forum on offshore oil rigs and what should happen with them after their operational lifespan ends. The forum begins with a keynote address by renowned ocean explorer Sylvia Earle, California State Controller Betty Yee, and Ocean Protection Council Executive Director Mark Gold.
