For the third year in a row, a cohort of exceptional African American students are awarded scholarship funds and join a growing community of scholars engaging in various Aquarium efforts.

The Aquarium’s 13th annual Photographers Night was held in October, and guests were invited to enjoy an evening of workshops, free equipment rentals, and demonstrations.

In a bid to help protect an endangered species and encourage science-based decision making, the Aquarium of the Pacific has published a paper on managing the U.S. population of endangered gray wolves in the peer-reviewed journal Conservation Science and Practice.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is one of several partners on a team that was awarded a $750,000 NOAA Sea Grant to fund sustainable fish breeding and raise awareness about aquaculture among the public and commercial fishers.

Mountain yellow-legged frogs faced near-extinction after the devastating Bobcat Fire in 2020. Now, with help from the Aquarium and other partners, this species has a chance at survival.

The Aquarium’s longtime partnership with SECORE International has made it possible for several staff members to travel around the world to participate in hands-on coral reef restoration projects.

The Aquarium will be accepting applications for its African American Scholar Program starting September 9, 2022. Now in its third year, the program supports African American students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields related to the work of the Aquarium.

The sea otter can now be seen in the Aquarium’s Sea Otter Habitat in the Northern Pacific Gallery. The Aquarium is offering the chance to help name the four-month-old sea otter pup through its Adopt an Animal program.

The Aquarium of the Pacific has partnered with Orange Coast College (OCC) to offer a college-level course for thirty high school and college students during the fall 2022 semester.

Betty passed away early in the morning on Thursday, July 14, 2022. She will be greatly missed.

The study was envisioned by Aquarium Veterinarian Dr. Lance Adams and involved four zebra sharks living at the Aquarium of the Pacific, one male and three females. Zebra sharks are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species.

The Ocean Conservation Award is given annually to those who contribute significantly to ocean conservation and environmental education.

The chick hatched at the Aquarium of the Pacific on May 22.

In March the Aquarium’s penguin care team opened the nine nesting burrows in the June Keyes Penguin Habitat, giving our Magellanic penguins the opportunity to claim a burrow and start building a nest in preparation for breeding season.
