On June 8, World Ocean Day, the Aquarium announced a new scholarship. The Aquarium’s Board Chair Kathleen Eckert made the announcement in a video.

The Aquarium of the Pacific has released a report on decommissioning offshore oil rigs in California. The report summarizes the proceedings and findings of a forum held at the Aquarium in January.

The Aquarium of the Pacific announced today that it will become a partner facility for rehabilitating rescued sea otter pups, rearing them with the help of surrogate mothers, and coordinating their release back into the wild. The Aquarium is also welcoming a new sea otter named Millie, who they hope will be a surrogate mother to the orphaned sea otter pups.

An exhibit of photographs by Patsee Ober will be on view at the Aquarium from March 16 to May 16, 2020. Ober will give a talk about her process, equipment, and inspiration in creating the photos on the evening of March 16.

After attending the national 2019 Urban Climate Action Network conference, a group of teen volunteers at the Aquarium became inspired to form the Teen Climate Council at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

With the opening of Pacific Visions and other accomplishments in ocean conservation and educational offerings, 2019 was a significant year in the Aquarium’s history.

Helvola sea nettles bred at the Aquarium are now on view in the Northern Pacific Gallery. This is the first time an aquarium in the United States has successfully cultured and raised this species.

The Aquarium unveiled a new art installation on its front plaza on November 27. The sea urchin sculpture with spines that light up at night will be outside the Aquarium until May 2020.
