Lecture date: August 25, 2014. Rear Admiral (retired) William McDaniel discusses his book, Faces of the Tsunami, which documents the U.S. relief effort following the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia in 2004. He also discusses disaster response and the combined efforts of U.S. Navy personnel and the civilian medical community in Indonesia.

McDaniel served in the U.S. Navy for thirty-two years. He is a Vietnam War veteran and had four commands in the Navy, one of which was the Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, during Hurricane Hugo in 1989.
