Lecture date: September 24, 2013. Dr. Shirley Pomponi is a senior research professor at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution at Florida Atlantic University.

Sponges use chemicals to defend against predators, communicate with other sponges, reproduce, and even prevent infections. These same chemicals are being studied for their potential use in treating human disorders and diseases.
