Lecture date: September 11, 2013. Michael Latz is the principal investigator at the Latz Laboratory at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where he is also a senior lecturer.

Latz has been studying bioluminescence for more than twenty-five years. His research interests include using interdisciplinary approaches involving biology, chemistry, and physics to investigate how marine organisms interact with their ocean environment; ecology of bioluminescence in the ocean; and the role of bioluminescent and fluorescent molecules.
