Since 1968 Dr. Bernie Krause has traveled around the world recording and archiving the sounds of creatures and environments. He identified the concept of biophony based on the relationships of individual creatures to the total biological soundscape within a given habitat. He was a key figure in implementing natural soundscapes as a resource for the National Park Service, and in 2006 he led three teams to capture the first natural soundscape examples ever recorded in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Dr. Krause spoke at the Aquarium on August 23, 2012.
