Join the Aquarium of the Pacific and Shark Lab for an evening of science, socializing, and local brews. Where do white sharks live? Where do they migrate? Are their numbers increasing or decreasing? Can we spot them in Southern California? White sharks are a majestic ocean predator that we don’t know much about. Shark Lab at CSULB is working to change that. Southern California is an important nursery area for white sharks. Dr. Kady Lyons will discuss the ongoing efforts to tag and study white sharks in our local waters.
About the Speaker: Dr. Kady Lyons is a post-doctoral researcher working with Shark Lab. She specializes in the accumulation of contaminants in local shark species, and the negative impacts on their health. In 2016, Kady won the Eugenie Clark award for young professional female scientists.
For more information about white sharks, follow along with the Schmidt Ocean Institute as they travel to the White Shark Café to study adult white sharks.
