Restoring Coral Reefs in Guam: A Conservation Success Story
Sandy Trautwein, Janet Monday, and Daniel Muñoz
For the past three years the Aquarium of the Pacific has teamed up with the international nonprofit organization SECORE (Sexual Coral Reproduction) to conduct coral restoration projects in Guam. In this lecture, learn about SECORE’s coral reef conservation work around the world and the Aquarium’s role.
Aquarium Curator of Fishes and Invertebrates Sandy Trautwein, Assistant Curator Daniel Muñoz, and Senior Aquarist Janet Monday will share their experiences from the most recent trip to Guam in summer 2016. They will explain the methods used to spawn and raise these corals in addition to outplanting them in the ocean. They will also provide an update about the coral larvae brought back to the Aquarium last year from Guam.
