Celebrate Earth Day and the City Nature Challenge with a bioblitz at the Los Cerritos Wetlands, a critical habitat under restoration at the edge of Long Beach. A bioblitz is a community science effort to record as many species in a designated location and time period as possible.

Participants will meet at the corner of 1st Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Seal Beach, where we will go over the rules for the event and make sure everyone is set up to record their discoveries in the iNaturalist app. An event leader will then escort everyone to the bioblitz site at Zedler Marsh.

After the bioblitz, participants can join us for a short walk to look for the local Pacific green sea turtles in the San Gabriel River.

This event is part of the Party for the Planet: Spring Into Action events scheduled between Earth Day (April 22) and World Oceans Day (June 8). Party for the Planet is the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ annual celebration of our planet. In total, over 120 AZA members will be hosting Spring Into Action events.
