Superstorm Sandy made landfall on October 29, 2012, and was the second-costliest hurricane in United States history. Malcolm Bowman will discuss the difficulties and challenges of protecting New York and New Jersey from another such catastrophe. Solutions range from local adaptation and resilience projects to regional solutions that transcend geographical and political boundaries, such as storm barriers.
Bowman is an oceanographer, engineer, and professor of oceanography at State University of New York, Stony Brook.
