Marine biologist Dr. Daniel Cartamil has traveled the Pacific coast of Baja California for over a decade, studying the region’s sharks and shark fisheries. There he discovered a fragile paradise of remote landscapes, wildlife, and cultural treasures on the verge of being overtaken by modern civilization. Science and art converge as we take a photographic journey through western Baja California illustrated with photography from Cartamil’s new book, Baja’s Wild Side. Cartamil is an expert in shark biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. His passion for the natural world has led him to over a decade of photographing Baja California’s untamed wilderness, particularly the Pacific Coast Region, where he conducts research to protect migrating sharks from overfishing. He is also an environmental consultant and musician in Encinitas, California.
