Facilities Technician I - Electrician
Full Time, Eligible For Benefits - Minimum starting pay, $31.00
Minimum starting pay for this role is $31.00. Additional consideration will be given, depending on relevant qualifications and experience.
The Facilities Department is currently looking for a skilled generalist, performing at a journey-level in Commercial/Industrial Electrical with strong skills in other trades.
The Facilities Technician I - Electrical is responsible for maintaining the major building systems, including air handling, air conditioning, physical plant, electricity, plumbing, co-generation, maintenance carpentry and exhibit work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide technical support and labor in the following disciplines: Electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), machinery repair, carpentry and general fabrication.
- Assists as required in the design, material procurement, construction, and daily operation and maintenance of the temporary holding facilities and the focus tanks located throughout the Aquarium.
- Supervises the performance of the required daily inspections and routine maintenance of all life support equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshoots, isolates, and coordinates the repair of faulty facilities and life support systems and equipment.
- Reviews and becomes familiar with the drawings and technical aspects of all systems within the Aquarium.
- Establishes and maintains equipment maintenance records as required and generates necessary reports, including budget requests and purchase order justifications.
- Assists in the continuing development and implementation of a preventative maintenance program for all facilities and life support equipment in the Aquarium.
- Assists in the design and construction of the facilities life support equipment for the changing exhibit area and future additions to the Aquarium.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of National and California Electrical Codes.
- Requires a working knowledge and understanding of OSHA and Cal OSHA safety requirements for the work being performed.
- Ability to install, modify, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and distributions systems from 125 VAC single phase up to an including 480 VAC 3 phase.
- Ability to design, fabricate, install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing and pumping systems using PVC, CPVC, polyethylene, FRP, copper and black iron pipe.
- Ability to operate, program, troubleshoot, repair, balance and monitor the performance of large, industrial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Ability to install, align, balance, troubleshoot, and repair mechanized equipment such as motors, pumps, hydraulic systems, etc.
- Ability to work from discussions, directions, and drawings to conceptualize and construct complete assemblies, systems, displays, or exhibits using multiple skills. Ability to read and accurately interpret prints, schematics, P&ID’s and drawings.
- Ability to fabricate structures and equipment as required using wood, fiberglass (FRP), glass, acrylic and related materials
QUALIFICATIONS

- Must always exercise safe work practices.
- Multi-skilled in technical disciplines with a minimum of one required and two preferred: electrical, HVAC, machinery repair, carpentry, and general fabrication.
- A minimum of five (5) years specific jobs experience, completion of a formal training program, or appropriate contractors license is preferred.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license.
- Proof of California State Electrical Certification.
- EPA 608 certification highly desired.
- Respirator certified and fit tested.
