Sharing Important Ocean Stories

VolunTEENs volunteer weekly at the Aquarium of the Pacific as part of the ten-week program hosted in the Fall, Spring, and Summer every year.

Through hands-on experience, they are developing new skills while immersing themselves in the study of marine biology and connecting visitors to the Aquarium’s conservation projects. VolunTEENs discover how we are interconnected with the ocean, share important ocean stories with our visitors, and facilitate interactive experiences throughout the Aquarium. The program includes 60 hours of service and ongoing learning experiences, culminating in a final project showcasing the teen perspective on conservation.

Peer-to-peer Support and Insight

In addition to gaining valuable experience, VolunTEENs build a network with peers and mentors who share their enthusiasm for marine conservation.

High school students who have graduated from the VolunTEEN program and successfully completed volunteering experiences at the Aquarium become VolunTEEN Mentors. They mentor incoming VolunTEENs, support program experiences, and inform the ongoing development and direction of the VolunTEEN program. VolunTEEN mentors become community leaders while ensuring each VolunTEEN receives peer-to-peer support and insight as they navigate their journeys in ocean stewardship.

Young Voices for Ocean Conservation

After completing the VolunTEEN program, teens are eligible to continue in a variety of volunteer paths at the Aquarium, including the Education Volunteer, Teen Science Café, and Teen Climate Council roles.

Join us in amplifying young voices for ocean conservation, fostering professional growth, and cultivating lasting friendships. Together, we can inspire the next generation of advocates dedicated to protecting the Pacific Ocean and its vital ecosystems.
