Aquarium of the Pacific Student Eco-Ambassadors (S.E.A) volunteers make an impact through conservation efforts in Oaxaca, Mexico on key nesting beaches for olive ridley, green, and leatherback sea turtles. Participants gain firsthand research and conservation field experience while contributing to the protection of endangered sea turtles, specifically olive ridley and leatherback species.

Through their travel, volunteer efforts, and work with local communities making a difference for sea turtles, each traveler contributes to saving an estimated 500 hatchlings at a turtle nesting beach – saving over 8,000 sea turtles per year.

About S.E.A

S.E.A. projects include monitoring nesting beaches, relocating sea turtle nests, and collecting crucial population and nesting data. Their work is vital in understanding and mitigating the challenges faced by these species, ensuring the future for generations of new sea turtles.

The program immerses volunteers in Oaxaca’s rich ecosystems, exploring mangroves, lagoons, and coastal areas. This exposure fosters a deeper understanding of the intricate relationships between marine environments, local cultures, and the broader ecological challenges they face.

Through their involvement, S.E.A. volunteers not only contribute to local conservation initiatives but also cultivate cross-cultural connections, enriching their perspectives on the world. By fostering friendships and sharing experiences, they leave a lasting impact on both the communities they visit and their own personal development. The S.E.A. program exemplifies how youth can drive positive change in the world while creating memories that will shape their futures as environmental stewards.
