Lorikeet Recall Training

What do you do when you want all the birds of Lorikeet Forest to come indoors out of the rain? You give the “Recall” signal.

Our aviculturists recently trained a recall behavior to all the lorikeets of the Aquarium’s Lorikeet forest. A recall is a trained behavior where an animal or group of animals returns to a home base when signaled. The behavior is especially useful during stormy weather to get all the birds into the safety of the indoors.

It’s pretty awesome to watch almost 100 birds fly into a hut all at once when a whistle is blown to recall them. Check out the video of this important behavior training.
