2022 Was A Year of Recovery, Regeneration, and Building for the Future
Thank you for your support of the Aquarium of the Pacific in 2022. We share this report with enormous gratitude and hope you feel a sense of pride as you read these highlights of your past support. Thank you for all you do to help the Aquarium continue its mission to instill a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean, its inhabitants, and ecosystems.
In 2022 we rebuilt our employee and volunteer programs from pandemic cutbacks, and we recommitted ourselves to the mission of inspiring people with our animals. We opened a new exhibit in Pacific Visions, welcomed back school groups, made significant contributions to saving local species, published three scientific papers, brought science education to under resourced communities, welcomed our diverse community through events and festivals, engaged a new generation of young people in conservation, and connected 1.5 million visitors to nature and our ocean. This was all made possible by the hard work of our employees, the incredible dedication of our volunteers, the unprecedented engagement of our Board, the support of the City of Long Beach, the contribution of our loyal members, and the generosity of our hundreds of donors.
In light of the pandemic, our staff is now more committed than ever at serving the community and the ocean and is especially dedicated to those individuals facing access barriers to educational opportunities.
Thank you for your support and making 2022 a year of impact and success.
Sincerely,
Peter Kareiva, CEO and Ed Feo, Board Chair
