Trashin’ Fashion Contest

The Aquarium of the Pacific will be hosting the Trashin’ Fashion Contest during its annual Earth Day Celebration on April 23-24, 2022. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the 1st place winner, $300 to 2nd place, and $200 to 3rd place. The top five finishers will also receive a $200 Macy’s gift card. The top five designs will be displayed on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24. All designs must be made of recycled materials. The goal of the contest is to draw awareness to issues of pollution and creating a sustainable relationship with our ocean.

The contest is open to anyone. To enter, please submit one to three garment sketches and no more than a 50 word description for each design by midnight on Sunday, April 10. The description must include the materials to be used and why it is eco-friendly. The designers of the top entries will be chosen by Monday, April 11 and all applicants will be notified by that date. If your design is chosen as one of the top entries, a photo of the completed garment must be emailed by midnight, Wednesday, April 20. The chosen designers are required to display their fashion(s) at the Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 to be eligible for prizes. Some designers may be asked to showcase more than one design submitted. All entries selected as finalists will receive four (4) passes to the Aquarium of the Pacific. No purchase necessary to enter. All entries must be completed in excellence by April 23 and be made of all recycled materials, except minor structural components like thread and glue. Designers will be required to present their designs in-person at the Aquarium for judging on Saturday, April 23 at 10:00AM. Designers are required to display their designs on mannequins or freestanding displays provided by the designers.
